If you go to a rheumatologist, they can evaluate you for those other issues. Also, they will give you a full panel of gluten antibody tests and you can see if your body is reacting to getting gluten. This can help you figure out if your diet is really as gluten-free as you think. Even if you already see a gastroenterologist, adding one more doc is worth it!

Get a rheumatologist
You guys may be ahead of me on this one, but I had no idea until recently what a rheumatologist was. They are doctors who specialize in autoimmune diseases - which is what Celiac disease is. If you're in the DFW area, I recommend my doctor - Dr. Stern at Rheumatology Associates. Many people with Celiac disease have some other autoimmune diseases.

Thank you for this! I live in the area and while I do not need to go through the test (diagnosed years ago), but will need one for my son. He will be two later this year and I will need to get the appropriate doctors lined up for him.
You're welcome! I really enjoyed my visits with Dr. Stern. He's very knowledgeable and I felt like he was looking at my situation from all angles. Even if you've already been diagnosed with Celiac, it's good to have someone monitor your progress!
After reading this I called Cooks (who have 2 rheumatologist on staff) to see about setting up an appointment for my son (diagnosed last year with Celiac). For them, they don't start seeing patients until age 12 (my son is 8). Just thought I would pass that on.
Thanks for sharing that!
