Gluten-Free cupcakes at Central Market

After everyone had reported back on the cupcakes at Central Market, I had to see and taste for myself!  Indeed, there are vanilla and chocolate cupcakes by French Meadow Bakery for sale in the frozen dessert section of Central Market in Fort Worth - and probably in the other stores as well.  I haven't checked.

They also have single slices of cake as well as an entire cake for sale.  You might want to call ahead, they had sold out of the whole cake tonight.

The cupcakes come in a package of four and sell for $5.99.  The taste was above average and the convenience factor beyond compare.  I have to confess that I ate two tonight.  One frozen and one defrosted.  The other two are in my freezer.  The defrosting is definitely worth the wait.

Cupcake Confirmation - and a good GF outing

This is from the comments on the last cupcake post:

I'll have to try one!

Also, I got this awesome post from blog reader Diane Shaw about a Gluten-Free Mother's day that went well.  I'm really impressed by their resourcefulness of calling ahead and warning the pizza place that they were bringing their own food.  I have shown up at restaurants with part or all of a meal, ordered a soda and a salad and tipped as if I have eaten a full meal and no one has ever been rude, but this sounds really nice.

My husband wanted to take us all out for Mother's Day, but we have the challenges of me being
a Celiac, 2 gluten intolerant daughters, one gluten intolerant grandchild and the rest can eat whatever they want.

The other problem was everyone wanted to go to Grimaldis' Pizza at Watter's Creek in Allen for the atmosphere and the delectable pizza.

We did the unthinkable and called and asked if our party of 10 came for dinner could we bring our homemade GF pizza for those who cannot eat their pizza. After a few minutes on hold
they said "Sure."

We arrived 30 minutes later, they had our table ready and they were so gracious and kind to us. I think it is rare for a restaurant to allow you to bring food in and to be so kind about it. We will visit there again for sure.

Also, Cru wine bar at Watter's Creek was very aware of gluten issues as was PF Chang's.

Unconfirmed rumor of Gluten-Free Cupcakes

There is a rumor that Central Market has been carrying fresh gluten-free cupcakes in their bakery section.  If anyone finds out if this is the case, let me know!

Gluten-Free Halloween party

This is third GF Halloween and I've learned a few tricks for Gluten-Free entertaining.  These are pictures of the sugar cookies I mentioned a couple of posts ago -you can see how they turned out!  Also, the cupcakes and brownies are from Pamela's mixes.
I think Pamela's products are the most consistently good GF baked goods and mixes I've found.  They taste the most like the "real" thing.  My friends, who are not shy about telling me if I've missed the mark, all thought these cupcakes were an improvement over previous mixes I've tried.  Also, they said these sugar cookies tasted like plain old normal sugar cookies (not like potatoes like last time.)  There were high-fives all around.
Of course, I own 20 gluten-free cookbooks, but if I want to save time for things like decorating sugar cookies, then a good-quality mix helps me get there with less stress and more fun.
Sometimes people ask why I don't just buy stuff with gluten in it and serve it alongside my food. Although, I don't expect the world to change for me, my house is a "safe" place for me to eat.
Trying to police dips, cheese or other spread that could become cross-contaminated would take the fun out of it for me.  One time I brought a risotto to a potluck. I stepped away from the table and out of the corner of my eye saw someone dipping crackers into it.
If I have the choice, I'd like to avoid even the possibility of cross-contamination.  So, sometimes it means going the extra mile food-wise to make sure that everyone can enjoy the party.

Sublime bakery has released it's Gluten-Free fall menu

I mentioned Sublime bakery before and their promise of gluten-free cupcakes.  They've upped the ante with offerings of scones, muffins, truffles and a very decadent-sounding cheesecake "Lollipop."  All are Gluten Free.
In the menu, it says they keep cross-contamination to a minimum by making the Gluten-Free offerings first thing in the morning when there isn't any wheat-flour dust in the air and the machines are clean.  Then, they don't make any more Gluten-Free goodies for the rest of the day.  Which is why it's important to call ahead to make sure they'll have what you're looking for.

Sublime Bakery in Fort Worth is a fabulous source for Gluten Free Goodies

Sublime Bakery
5512 Bellaire Dr. South
Fort Worth, TX
(817) 570-9630

Sublime offers a variety of baked goods and a limited lunch menu, all of which have gluten-free options.
On a daily basis, they say they have at least one Gluten-Free baked goody, like the Lemon Sugar cookies pictured above.  A package of four costs $5.
Starting Aug. 19, 2008, they say they will offer Gluten-Free cupcakes ($3.25 each) in either chocolate or vanilla. They ask that people looking for specific items call ahead to make sure the treat they are looking for will be available.
On request, Sublime will also make Gluten-Free custom cakes or bakery cakes.  They also cater to vegan and dairy-free diets.
